Twin dating scan
Having a scan in the first few months of pregnancy can be a thrilling experience. It's amazing to see the little blob with a heartbeat that will soon become your baby. The pain was definitely where i normally feel round ligament pain, even though the ER NP and my midwife told me it was too early for that. I'd been having round ligmament pain at that point anyway. The night before i went to the ER i rolled over in bed and had such bad stabbing pain in that area that it took my breath away! I am still convinced it was growing pains from two babies. I had an ultrasound at 7 wks and 11 wks and was told it was only one.Looking for abnormalities isn't the purpose of this scan, though.
Before the stick evendried I knew this pregnancy was different - maybe twins. (I am 5'9", now 145 lbs, and only gained 23 lbs with eachof my previous pregnancies). When I was pregnant with twins I didn't put on any weight till 16 weeks or so. No one this forum is psychic the only person who can tell you if are prego with twins is your doctor. Obviously every pregnancy is different and didn't expect anyone to predict the future. Just wanted to know if anyone ever had an ultrasound that missed a twin. Time will tell :) Yes, our doctor's office missed Baby B at the 6 and 8 week ultrasound, but then found him on the third ultrasound at 10 weeks. You probably know when your LMP was, but not when you actually conceived. If you do know the conception date, this is counted as day 14, and not day one.The dating scan will also show if you're expecting twins, triplets or more. It's helpful to know about twins early on, as it's easier to see whether or not they share a placenta.
Finding out about having twins early in pregnancy also gives you more time to prepare for the birth and for your doctor or midwife to plan your care.
